old school vs. new school

I'm thinking of posting my thoughts on "Old School vs. New School" coaching. Not sure when it happened, but I'm now "old school." I remember that coaches who were labeled "old school" were those who never looked at the new science out there on biomechanics or energy systems. "Old school," where the "uncaring" coaches, who excused everything as "my way, or the highway" (as a matter of fact, part of that, may apply!). Or refused to listen to any excuse for missing practice (perhaps, I should begin next season by keeping a list of excuses). I'd like to think of myself as not necessarily "old school," but how about, "old school/new school" in that I might listen, but I'll refuse to "like" excuses, etc."

Just some thoughts... I'll keep working and thinking about the label, "old school." Do I really want people to come out for track (and cross country) just to keep get some exercise (as one parent explained to me why their child is on the team? Nice, and I guess it's less expensive to sent their child to me then to take out a membership at FAC.
